Mt. Marcy, March 20 2004

Early morning breakfast at the Noonmark Diner

Paul finds the shoelaces too long on his brand new, stiff hiking boots. This will be just the start of the day's troubles for him

Getting ready at Adirondak Loj

Hiking in to Marcy Dam

The ascent. Rick is also having new boot related foot trouble

Whiteface, looking great from any angle

The summit is in sight but still oh, so far away. Note the blowing snow

The final summit push

Mount Haystack

Exposed to strong wind now, we put on all our warm stuff

And then there were three... with the ever worsening conditions, only Markus, Marty and Elan push on, but not for long.

We eventually make it within 200m or so of the summit, but the weather is now so fierce that we give up.

Obligatory group photo by an almost buried sign post, showing how deep the snow is

Do not proceed beyond this point...

The hike out. The weather is getting steadily worse.

Can't win 'em all

Obligatory "sign out" picture time-stamps the end of the hike

Paul, post ordeal
