We stopped at the Furnace Creek visitor center to register (i.e. show our Golden Eagle Passes, otherwise it's a $20/car fee like other national parks). In frame 3 you can see the Furnace Creek Inn, a luxurious oasis for those who don't care for tents and such.

On the climate display in the visitor center - we visited Badwater on the way here, we're at the visitor center, and we will encounter Rogers Peak a couple of days hence. Notice the delta in temperatures.

Notice too that there is green vegetation in all but the lowest and most barren parts of the valley. It's springtime here too. Sometimes, in the winter, they even get snow.
